    A:OSCAR, the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research, is the University of Oxford’s first and only engineering and physical sciences research institute located in China in the University’s over 850-year history. The Centre is an extension of the research activities of the University's Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division (MPLS Division), with 14 full-time professors spearheading research projects and forming various research teams.

  • Q:How can I participate in the OSCAR Generation Programme and what is the application process?
    A:Application to the Programme consists of the following steps:
    Step 1: search for a topic that interests you.
    Step 2: scan the QR code for individual sign-up and complete the application form.
    Step 3: staff from our partner institution will contact you.
    Step 4: we will thoroughly review each application and conduct interviews (sometimes with written tests) to find out more about you. We'll let you know within two weeks of the interview whether you've been accepted into the programme.

  • Q:Is the OSCAR Generation Programme taught in English or bilingual?
    A:English is the primary language of instruction during the OSCAR Generation Programme. However, considering the varying levels of English proficiency of applicants, for practical laboratory sessions, and complex theoretical concepts, teachers may provide bilingual instruction in English and Chinese to facilitate understanding.
  • Q:Can students with no prior knowledge of the subject take part?
    A:This is not recommended. The OSCAR Generation Programme requires a certain level of subject knowledge and English proficiency. Without these foundations, students may find it challenging to complete the research tasks with the required depth and complexity.

    A:The OSCAR Generation Programme takes place at the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR), located at No. 388, Ruoshui Road, Building A, Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province.The "30-minute COVID-19 rapid test kit" developed and launched in 2020 was the work of the research teams here.
